Installation

Download and run the .exe installer
Windows will show a "Windows protected your PC" notice — see below
Follow the prompts, then launch The STACKS App

About the SmartScreen warning

This installer is not code-signed, so Windows shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen the first time you run it. To continue, click More info, then Run anyway.

Prefer to skip that entirely? Install via winget below — it downloads through Windows' own package manager and never triggers the warning.

Install with winget

Open Terminal or PowerShell and run:

winget install STACKS.TheSTACKSApp

Reading iPhones over USB

Android phones are detected out of the box. Reading iPhones additionally needs Apple's USB device service, which comes with the free Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store (or iTunes). The installer offers to set this up for you, and the app will tell you if it is ever missing.
